famished for fiction book club- february

february book club reads

with only 28 days, february is the shortest month of the year,  adventureclubinteractive has decided to honor of february’s diminutive nature by reading short stories.  theStephALA has selected “The Complete Prose of Woody Allen,” while adventureclubviral has selected “The Middleman and Other Stories” by Bharati Mukherjee.

“i was in high school the first time i read through ‘The Complete Prose of Woody Allen’.  at that time i was in the a habit of writing non-sensical poetry and short plays.  the boyfriend of a friend of mine leant me his copy of this book and it spoke to me instantly.  i found it weird, intellectual and hilarious.  now, re-reading it a little more than 10 years later i still enjoy this collection of ideas, essays and short stories and i can appreciate more allusions than i did way back in high school.  this time around i’m also noticing more common themes like numerous references to hat-blocking and kirkegaard.”  -theStephALA

july book club exchange

for the month of july- adventureclubinteractive has chosen two books: Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen and And the Mountains Echoed, by Khaled Hosseini.

why two books? because we are all famished for fiction, no doubt! but also- the idea of the july book club exchange is to choose one book, read it and then (if you enjoyed it) pass it on to a partner or a friend. (a partner will have read the other book and will similarly pass that one to you, thus the exchange. a friend will just enjoy receiving a new book and a good recommendation).
