the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature was given to the Colombian writer, Gabriel García Márquez.
originally published in 1967, One Hundred Years of Solitude, lent Márquez international success as a writer and journalist. the novel has been translated countlessly into many languages and has sold millions of copies. it’s success remains undiminished, as confirmed by the interest of still new readers. a rare storyteller, known for his use of imagination to weave tales imbued with a “magical realism” Márquez is spoken of as one of those must-read authors. he passed away, quite recently, April 17th, 87 years old, at his home in Mexico City. no time like the present to read these great works- by those that have come and wrote and gone before us.
